Creativity Retreat: Perception and Play France 09
This Creativity Retreat is sponsored by two Basic Concepts:
What you perceive leads directly into what you create. And teaches you who you are as a creator.
How you play teaches you to experiment, learn, integrate, expand and express, without risk.
The goal of this retreat is to connect you more deeply to your own creative, innovative abilities, goals and resources. You will identify
- what you really want to create,
- what you secretly have to do this, and
- what your unique process is both in class and after you return to your home.
You will be assisted all along the way. I have been working with individuals and groups to expand and support your creative actions for over twenty years. I love this work, and have been an artist and inventor myself all my life, supporting myself as artist for over twenty-five years, with work in permanent museum collections, a highly-regarded book, and a solid teaching record.
Cost of the weeklong retreat is $1900. which includes room, board, some materials and a variety of other tangibles and intangibles. See pictures from last year’s retreat here.

Imagine this: you are in a lovely historic and cultural town in southern France, in the late summer, surrounded by all kinds of ancient and contemporary elements. Architecture, art, artifacts, culture, cuisine, personalities, and lifestyle….
The studio is upstairs under the eves, and we will travel about this rich and charming area as part of the class. Meals are served on a terrace overlooking the waterfall that La Cascade, the 18th C house, is named after. For more pictures, go to last year’s images here.
Your week at this retreat will include mornings of ideas, lectures, exercises, and demonstration. You’ll have a project for the week, developed by you with my help, that focuses your own individual strengths and concepts toward the ends that you have within you. I will help you find those, and help you navigate across your own inner landscape. I’ll be there with you along the way, with feedback and support to help you find and explore your unique direction.
Your afternoons will be your choice: work on your project, or explore for further inspiration in the lush historic surroundings. Durfort is a couple hours from Carcassonne, an hour from Toulouse, three hours from Barcelona…Nearbye is Montolieu, a town devoted to old books and ephemera. A short walk across the hill and Soreze, another historic town invites you to linger over wine at the cafe in late afternoon sunshine. For the unexpected magic of the found object, local flea markets offer treasures from another culture….
And you know already your most fertile landscape is within you!
